A Win for the Mighty Wests My uncle passed over approximately 4 years proir to this incident occurring. My father and my father's brother were fanatical Western Suburbs rugby league supporters. To the extent that I had made a point of it in his Eulogy and a Wests rep. attended his funeral. In fact my Grandfather was also, as am I, my cousins and our children .Although now they have merged into West Tigers. Midway through last season (2005) I had a very vivid yet peculiar dream. I was sitting in a grandstand surrounded by my relatives, when a black limo/hearse drove by me with my uncle waving a West Tigers flag and smiling at me, giving me the thumbs up. Since his death I had never dreamt of him which was something that puzzled me as I usually had visits/dreams from friends and relatives who have passed. I mentioned the dream to my father and another die hard Wests workmate. I said I wouldn't be suprised if we won the Premiership this year. The first time in about 42 years. Well I was in Victoria when we knew we had made it to the grand final. I felt that I was meant to be there in person yet could not get a hold of tickets. Trying every avenue and contact I had from remote rural Vic., where phone coverage was minimal, was a long shot. I was due back at work on Grand Final day. My Wests wormate had heard that I wanted some tickets, so had fended off some very lucrative offers of purchase to save them for me. My father was not well enough to go so my son and I went, I was wearing my old jersey. I used to wear it to the games with my uncle and father as a young girl. It was an exeptionally sentimental grand final win for Wests. Made even more poignant for my family knowing my uncle would have been there in spirit. As he had made sure we were there physically. His children were unable to be at the game but managed to get their photos taken together that night at the leagues club, holding the premiership cup! Through the tears and the cheers, a big thumbs up to Uncle Dick and Go those Mighty Magpies. |
